The Opulent Road less Traveled, Solo

Where to stay in Calgary, a review: The Dorian, Autograph Collection by Marriott

Calgary is located in the province of Alberta, Canada and is known for its beautiful scenery, friendly people, and vibrant culture city center; which is where to stay in Calgary. This very Denver-esque city, which is situated at the confluence of the Bow River and the Elbow River in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, provides residents and visitors with access to breathtaking natural landscapes, including parks, hiking trails, and ski resorts.

Calgary is also home to a thriving business community, which the local economy is based on industries such as energy, agriculture, and tourism. This city is also known for hosting major events such as the Calgary Stampede, which is a world-renowned rodeo and festival that draws visitors from around the globe.

Not only is Calgary a diverse and dynamic city that offers something for everyone, it is the gateway to the Rocky Mountains and beautiful Banff.

Where to stay in Calgary:

On my recent visit, I stayed at The Dorian, an Autograph Collection by Marriott and my stay was nothing but pleasurable and this hotel will be where I spend my time when visiting Calgary.

The Dorian is located downtown within walking to major attractions, shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and bars. As well as, The Dorian houses one of the best restaurants in the city: The Wilde on 27.

The hotel is based on the novel ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ by Oscar Wilde and taken straight from The Dorian’s website:

“Chic meets smart modernity with vibrancy and a touch of British whimsy. The interior design concept combines the fashion forward sensibilities of our muse Oscar Wilde and the evolution of Calgary as a city on the leading edge of a cultural and economic progression. Wilde’s sharp wit and gifted ability with worlds to surprise and humor influences the whimsical and play discoveries peppered throughout the hotel.”

Honestly, I couldn’t of said it any better myself. The moment I stepped foot into The Dorian, I was greeted by nothing but warm welcomes and smiles. Once I arrived to my room, the chicness took over and I knew my stay was about to be an amazing one.

What my 48-hour adventure entailed:

After I settled in, I went downstairs and got a bite to eat and a drink. I relaxed for a bit and then went back to my room. I unpacked and then wandered around for a bit. Once I got back to the hotel, I ordered room service and called it quits for the evening.

The next day I got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. Did I have a delicious eggs benedict? Yes, yes I did. After breakfast I went wandering; I took the light rail (which this portion is located in the free zone) and went down to the Calgary tower. I also walked Stephen avenue and then took the train to the mall. At this point it was raining, so I wandered the mall, got some delicious poke and sat in the botanic garden area and people watched.

After it stopped raining, I went back to the hotel to rest and freshen up as I had dinner reservations at The Wilde on 27.

Once dinner with a couple drinks concluded, I went back to my room and settled in for the night.

The following day, which was my departure day and I made sure I had a late checkout, I went down to the café where I had a cappuccino and a breakfast sandwich. I then wandered down to the river and across the Peace Bridge, then back to the hotel. I packed up my belongings and made my way to the airport.
