To get to Bali you will fly into Ngurah Rai International airport which is located in Denpasar; once you have arrived, pickup your luggage and head through customs. As you walk outside, you will be asked if you want a taxi ride, bus ride, etc.; do not respond and simply go to your pre-arranged transportation (which I highly recommend you do for arrival and departure) who should be holding a sign with your name on it. From there, they will take you to your accommodations.

Where to stay:

  • Kuta for partying and surfing
  • Seminyak for the beaches, shopping and stylish nightlife
  • Canggu for the boho-chic beach goers
  • Nusa Dua for the village life and families
  • Sanur for families and relaxing
  • Benoa for water sports
  • Jimbaran for the seafood and sunsets
  • Uluwatu for the temples and upscale beach resorts
  • Ubud for the serenity, culture and yoga
  • Tegalalang and Kintamani for the nature
  • Tambalang for the waterfalls and temples
  • Lovina and Singaraja for the dolphins and history
  • Southwest coast for peach and an escape

If you want to venture out of Bali, head to Lombok and the Gili Islands.

As a lover of Bali and a prior expat of Indonesia, the exploring during my time there was never ending; you can either keep yourself busy for the moments of the day or you can relax for as long as you want. This country will always have my heart and I can’t wait until you explore Bali and I certainly can’t wait until I get to return one day (in the very near future.)
