Solo female travelers understand the importance of finding places that we will feel safe in.
As a solo female traveler with a wanderlust soul; traveling is a passion of mine and I don’t want to ever stop. I don’t ever want us to stop seeing the world on our terms!
Unfortunately, there are some places that I have been that I haven’t felt comfortable but luckily, those are very few and far in between.
It is also important to understand that we (females) need to make sure that we don’t do anything to bring attention to ourselves, the same way we behave at home, but in a foreign place, it is even more important.
In my post, ‘How to: Solo Traveler Safety‘ I outline some tips and tricks to keep you safe; I always follow these tips when traveling alone and all of you badass solo female travelers should as well!

These five amazing cities are safe for solo female travelers in 2021 and I am sure for many years to come!
1. Lombok, Indonesia

I lived in Indonesia for a year, teaching English and this was an experience I will never forget. I was also fortunate to be able to travel to quite a few locations throughout Indonesia. While Bali was amazing, it is overcrowded from tourism, especially the Denpasar region where the International airport is located. There are other parts of Bali that are not as crowded but we will save that talk for another day!
Just to the west of Bali, is a place called Lombok and Lombok is spectacular. Basically, if you want to see amazing beaches, eat delicious food, be surrounded by Komodo dragons, explore a volcano and all of the beautiful sites…all without the crowds…Lombok is for you!
Also, just off the Northeast coast of Lombok, there are three islands, the Gili Islands, that are a few of my favorite spots as well.
2. Sunset Beach, Zanzibar

I also have been fortunate enough to live in Africa, and although it wasn’t Zanzibar, I can attest to how amazing all of Africa is.
I haven’t been to Zanzibar (yet), but I do have quite a few female solo traveler friends who have and I can verify just how safe it really is. Most of Africa is safe but just like anywhere, you must keep your guard up and don’t do anything to put yourself into a situation you don’t want to be in.
However, this spot in particular, has been rated as one of the top five safest places for solo female travelers. Go see Africa. Try the food. Converse with the locals. Walk the beaches. Have the time of your life. Because, I can guarantee, there is no place like Africa and it will leave you wanting more.
3. Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo has been very high on my list for many years and it is easy to understand why. Tokyo, interestingly enough, is the capital of dining alone. Did you know that?
While the language barrier could intimidate you, there is absolutely no reason to be. Virtually everything is extremely organized and systematic, that it will make you feel at ease when out exploring.
Be sure to visit all of the parks, the themed cafes, shipping, entertainment, restaurants, and bars, especially for great people watching. Immerse yourself in the culture and learn as much as you can about the country’s history, the temples, and visit the gardens.
4. Reykjavik, Iceland

Iceland is continuously ranked as the safest country in the world, by Vision of Humanity. It has been said that you can apparently leave your car running while in the grocery store and not a single person will touch your belongings. How amazing is that?
Not only that, the country’s landscape is ideal for road trips, as it is so unique and stunning. Have you heard of the Blue Lagoon? Reykjavik itself is on the coastline and is covered by peninsulas, coves, straits, and other small islands; if you can imagine the fishing available here! OH, the fresh seafood…yes, please!
Make sure while here you also check out the whale watching, concerts, art, museums, restaurants, bars, shopping, and all of the local swimming pools (when the weather permits, of course)!
5. Berlin, Germany

Berlin is one of the coolest cities in the world; think Brooklyn meets San Francisco with an LA vibe! Seriously, we can’t get more vibey than that!
Creatives and alternatives alike, meet in the middle for delicious food and experiences, where you can dress how you want and be who you want, and no one would think twice.
Make sure you check out the incredible music scene, festivals, clubs, restaurants, bars, shopping, and of course, the history and architecture. While Berlin itself is a little more inland, it is not far from the coast and why not take a trip to the Netherlands, Denmark, or Poland while in Berlin.
Have you been to any of these cities?
